Access Guide for Guests with Special Needs

We do our very best to try and help those guests that are unable to access the rides by the standard entrances by offering the use of the park’s access band facility.

This system has been designed to enable parties to swap the carer who is accompanying and assisting the service user onto the ride.

The system addresses the issue that we experienced in previous years with excessive queuing at exits which prevented guests who required this service from being able to receive the full benefits of this facility, leaving guests waiting for an excessive amount of time with larger queues at the attractions exits than the conventional queuing system which did not help those guests on the autistic spectrum.

We have found that the on an average day our guests are able to get onto 8 to 10 rides, so we introduced the access band system to reflect this and keep the system fair to all.

In keeping with our flexible approach we would recommend anyone with individual needs or specific requirements to please phone or e-mail our Guest Services department and one of our team will assist you further.

Important Information

Please note that due to the health and safety of riders and staff, all riders of Stormforce 10 and Shockwave must be able to walk up and down flights of stairs. These rides due their nature go to a high height and the only way of recovery in case of breakdown is by walking down gantry stairs.

These steps are lengthy and may be slippy and difficult to negotiate by ambulant disabled visitors and only fully ambulant walkers will be permitted to use the rides.

We ask that you follow all guidelines, observe any and all instructions that may be given by a ride operator as well as any and all ride restrictions and / or instructions. These rules are for your own comfort and safety as well as those around you. If you have to use an exit to access a ride we point out the guest with the disability MUST ride in order to take advantage of the special accommodations. If the guest with the disability chooses not to ride, their party MUST WAIT in the attraction queue line. Please also note that only a maximum of five people will be allowed up the exit at any one time. If there is already a party waiting you must wait until they have ridden and left the exit before entering the exit.

Some guests may be concerned that they are unable to queue for long periods. In these cases we recommend using a wheelchair - these are available from the rental point at Main Entrance.

We have a small number of wheelchairs available for hire. They are subject to a hire fee and deposit (cash only) and are available on a first come first served or booking basis, you can pre-book and pay by card by calling 0844 472 1960 during our Call Centre office hours.

If you would like to book a wheelchair or discuss any special needs you may have please contact us:

  • Thomas's friend Spencer has his very own activity park (outdoor play area) which is located in the zoo next to Farmer McColls Farm. You can get to this by walking through the zoo or by hopping on board Thomas or Percy from Thomas Land.
  • Make your day more memorable by taking home some ride photography or by making a visit to our souvenir shops.
  • On hot days please make sure that you all keep hydrated and don’t forget to apply that sunscreen.  Sunscreen can be purchased in all shops around the park.
